Estella Rijnveld Tulip

Here is the second flower I painted! It's an Estella Rijnveld tulip. I know, fancy name. Almost as fancy as it looks. Below are a few pictures of the process of this piece. You can follow me here for more.

P.S. I love making these cinemagraphs, they're so much fun!

Hydrangea

Wow, it's August already! Summer is definitely coming to an end soon. I've been working on a few floral paintings for my mom over the past few weeks. This hydrangea is probably my favorite out of the bunch. Also, how cool is this cinemagraph?!

You can follow me on instagram for more process pictures.

Stay tuned for more!

Oh my, it's July!

Can you believe July is here already? This means we are half way through 2013! Craziness!

The weather has warmed up quite a bit in MN. I find myself eating a popsicle almost everyday just to cool off. They are kind of my new obsession! I was doodling on my computer and decided to turn this design into a wallpaper. Hope you like it!

Explore!

There are so many gems at the University of Minnesota. The Weisman Art Museum is definitely one of them. The Weisman was designed by Frank Gehry and has been here since 1934. Sometimes, I can't believe how fortunate I am as a student to have such beautiful architecture on campus. Just today, I found a building that had the most amazing view! I definitely encourage everyone to do more exploring - whether it be your college campus, a city you live in, even another country! Who knows what you'll find? :)

Foodscapes

Only a few days left and I will be done with the spring semester! So excited! Most of my classes this year are project-based. So while everyone is busy studying for exams, I get to work on fun final projects like this one. This was for my photography class. We were allowed to photograph anything we liked. I saw some of Carl Warner's foodscapes a while ago, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try doing it. This was really fun to do, even though it got kinda messy. Let me know which ones you like best!

Florals

Hi everyone! I recently took a fashion illustration class on Skillshare. It's a great site that offers a ton of classes on design, illustration, marketing, and so much more. It's a great way to learn something that you're interested in.

I thought it would be fun to learn more about fashion illustration after my gig at Macy's. The very talented Katie Rodgers of PaperFashion taught the class and gave us great tips on how to create these illustrations. I decided to go with florals since it's spring. I love the colors and patterns on these dresses. Hopefully, there will be flowers just like these in Minneapolis soon!

I'm also taking another class on logo design, so you might see some changes here in the next few weeks!

Fashion Illustration for Macy's

I had the opportunity this past week to create custom fashion illustrations at Macy's Five Essentials event. It was a fashion event where celebrity stylist, Jamie Krell, presented a few of this season's trends. In case you were wondering, the five essentials are lace, peplum, printed pants, dresses, and the pullover. Now you know! ;) I was there drawing some of the guests that had won a chance to get a sketch of themselves. I had so much fun doing this! Here are some of the sketches I did.

Don't these girls (and guy..haha) look great?

With the lovely Jamie Krell. She is so sweet and down-to-earth! I was able to give her a couple of sketches, and she posted them on her instagram. You can see it here.

I really enjoyed doing this and I hope to do it again soon!

Scanograms

For my photography class, we were asked to make several scanograms. It's scanner photography, in other words. You're using the scanner to take images of the subjects you've placed on top of it. It's really fun and easy! If you have a scanner at home, you should definitely try it out! You can use three-dimensional objects or even move things around while the scanner is running.

From My Sketchbook

I really enjoyed the drawing class I took last semester. Even though I am not taking it anymore, I'm going to try to sketch more often. I think it's a great way to document what you're doing and where you've been. It's like an illustrated journal! Plus, this pretty sketchbook my friend gave me makes me want to draw more. Thanks, Ge!

WOOF! {Timelapse Video}

First post of 2013! Yay! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays. I certainly did! It was extra relaxing because I was on winter break (still am actually). Since I have some time on hand, I whipped out my acrylics and brushes and painted this cute little pup for a friend. I filmed myself painting and made it into a little timelapse video. It's so fun to see the entire process condensed into just a few minutes. (p.s. Watch it in HD, it's so much better!)
