Whooping Crane

Hey everyone! It's been a month since my last post. I haven't been drawing as much recently as school has been occupying most of my time, BUT I finally have something to blog about! I happened to have a few hours to kill last Friday, so I decided to submit something for an endangered species art contest. The animal I chose is a whooping crane. These birds were given their name because of the loud whooping sound they make. They are also really tall, standing up to 5 feet. Whooping cranes are known for their red crowns and black wing tips when flying. Right now, there are less than 400 of them in North America.

This took about 3 hours to complete. I did it in the computer lab at school and was able to take a few shots of the process with photobooth. I used my new oil pastels and I love how it turned out!

On another note, I found out a few weeks ago that I have been accepted to the college that I really wanted to go to. Super exciting! Can't wait for the fall semester!

UPDATE: I won 1st place in the Grade 10-12 category! My little brother entered too and came in 3rd in the K-3 category. See his piping plover here! I feel so thankful for this!! :D
